We stumbled across this awesome truck on the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company website www.barrett-jackson.com.
Unfortunately the hand-built Dodge had already found a buyer (no wonder), but we just had to feature it here anyway because it’s a clever blend of old and new technology. And because we just really like tough looking trucks like this.
According to the US auction house, this one-of-a-kind World War II Dodge (well, what’s left of an old WC-51) sits up high on a 1992 Dodge Ram suspension and drivetrain, including rear air bags, power steering and power brakes.
Stuffed under the bonnet is the Ram’s 5.9 litre, six cylinder, Cummins turbo diesel engine and four-speed automatic transmission with lots of custom touches.
Front axle is a Dana 60 with a 14-bolt Dodge in the rear, turning 16-inch Rock Crusher bead-lock wheels with 37×13.5R/16LT Super Swamper M16 tyres.
The tan interior makeover continues the retro-modern build theme, with new seats and late model Dodge truck controls and instrumentation.
With almost 6.0 litres of turbo diesel to play with and massive ground clearance, this baby could not only pull the proverbial tree out of the ground - it could also drive right over the top of it! Love it.
